Week 5
This weeks post is a little different than the previous weeks... I went to a music festival in TN this past weekend. There were somewhere around 100,000 people in attendance. There were all sorts of bands and shows that were happening over the course of the three days so it drew a very diverse crowd. There were both males and females ranging from age 18-60. I observed more men than i did women throughout the few days. My gender moment comes from what i saw this weekend. It was a hippie festival and the idea of free love was in the air. Many females had there body parts exposed only to be covered with paint. A lot of the females had their breasts painted with intricate designs and patterns. It was truly artwork. The thing i noticed to be interesting was the lack of care for these women walking around topless. There were no boys running up to the girls and ogling them or trying to touch them. No one made obscene comments everyone was just comfortable with their bodies and no one had to feel like they were be objectified. I thought this was very interesting because in any other situation for example at the beach guys stare at girls in bikini's. At this concert bare breast were exposed just like the males had their chests exposed and everyone was equal. I thought it was truly amazing to have that many people be there and no one female was sexually assaulted or harassed. It just goes to show that if everyone treats people like human beings and not like objects people can be treated with the same standards and be free to express themselves comfortably without feel like an object.
